Planet Zoo 2 Workshop and mods: sharing blueprints and zoos

The Frontier Workshop step by step, from Frontier's guides and FAQ

Blueprints and zoos, shared across platforms; no official mods

The Frontier Workshop is Planet Zoo 2's built-in way to share what you build. You upload blueprints (saved groups of objects, such as a habitat or a shop) and zoos saved as Sandbox levels, and you install other players' creations, across PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It needs an internet connection. Frontier has not announced mod support: none of its guides, FAQ answers or update notes mention mods, and its Mod Policy does not permit mods for a game it provides no modding tools for.

What you can share on the Workshop

A blueprint is a saved collection of objects, usually scenery, a habitat or both. The game comes with Frontier Official Blueprints, and the Workshop adds the ones other players make. Whole zoos can be shared too, once they are saved as a Sandbox level. You can also browse the Workshop on Frontier's website, where creations are listed under Trending, Highlighted and Official.

How to download and install a blueprint

  1. Open the Frontier Workshop from the pause menu, or with the Open Workshop button in the Blueprint tab of the Browser.
  2. Find a blueprint in the Featured, Creators or Browse areas. You can also view blueprints in the Workshop module inside the other Browser tabs; select See More to open the Community Blueprints section.
  3. Select the blueprint and choose Install Blueprint.
  4. Back in the game, it appears in the Frontier Workshop section of the Blueprint menu. Manage or delete installs on the My Installs screen.

Frontier's guide says blueprints you download from the Workshop or straight from the Browser are added to the game and ready to use at once.

How to make your own blueprint

  1. Use the Multi-Select tool to highlight every object you want, or select a habitat barrier (a habitat blueprint keeps only what is inside the barrier).
  2. Choose Save Selection as Blueprint, then + New Blueprint.
  3. Fill in the name, description and blueprint type. The type adds some tags; add more to help people find it.
  4. Set the camera before you save: that view becomes the blueprint's picture in your Browser and on the Workshop.
  5. Select Create New Blueprint, or Create and Upload Blueprint to add it to the game and the Workshop in one go.

The Blueprints tab of the Browser lets you switch between all blueprints, your own, Frontier's and the ones you downloaded.

How to upload a blueprint or a zoo

  1. Open the Frontier Workshop and go to My Content.
  2. Select Upload to Workshop, choose the blueprint or zoo, then Upload as new.
  3. Fill in the required details and select Upload New Creation to Workshop.

A zoo can only be shared once it is saved as a Sandbox level. You can also upload it from the Sandbox Hub: select the zoo on the globe and use Upload to Workshop. Change what you have shared on the My Uploads screen.

Planet Zoo 2 mods: what Frontier has said

Frontier has announced no mod support or modding tools for Planet Zoo 2. We checked its FAQ, its eleven player guides and the notes for Updates 1.0.4 to 1.0.8 on 5 November 2026, and none mentions mods.

Frontier's general Mod Policy, which is part of its EULA, sets the rules. Its definition of a mod is wide: it names parks, blueprints and maps alongside textures and audio files. Where Frontier provides no modding tools for a game, the policy says you are not permitted to create or make available mods for it. Mods must also be strictly non-commercial, and Frontier does not promise that any mod will keep working after a game update.

Nexus Mods has a Planet Zoo 2 section with mods made by players, not Frontier. We do not link to them.

For shared building and online play without mods, our guides cover what Planet Zoo 2 offers online and the Franchise mode trading network.

Workshop fixes and known issues

On Steam Deck and SteamOS, Frontier's FAQ points to its support article "Workshop Issues with SteamOS/Steam Deck" (14 October 2026). A downloaded habitat blueprint that contains items locked behind research should still show in the Browser, marked as needing that research before you place it, Frontier's Steam post of 20 October says; Update 1.0.8 fixed such blueprints not appearing in the Browser in Franchise mode. Our research guide explains how to unlock the items. For fixes outside the Workshop, see our Planet Zoo 2 patch notes.

Common questions

Does Planet Zoo 2 have mod support?

Frontier has not announced any. Its FAQ, player guides and update notes do not mention mods or modding tools (checked 5 November 2026), and its Mod Policy says that without Frontier modding tools you are not permitted to create or share mods for a game. The official way to share builds is the Frontier Workshop.

Is the Planet Zoo 2 Workshop cross-platform?

Yes. Frontier's FAQ says players can share their creations and download other players' parks and blueprints through the in-game Workshop across platforms.

Do you need the internet for the Workshop?

Yes. You can play offline once the game is downloaded, but Frontier says you need to be online to download blueprints from the Workshop or to share parks.

How do you upload a zoo to the Workshop?

The zoo has to be saved as a Sandbox level. Upload it from the Sandbox Hub (select the zoo on the globe, then Upload to Workshop), or open the Workshop, go to My Content and choose Upload to Workshop.

Where do downloaded blueprints go?

Installed blueprints appear in the Frontier Workshop section of the Blueprint menu, and you can check or delete them on the Workshop's My Installs screen.
